Jennifer L. Kane worked for 30 years in marketing/communications in the corporate world with 20 years in radio broadcasting (including news director). She holds degrees in Journalism/Communication (BA) and English (MA) from St. Bonaventure University.
In 2016 she researched and authored the Vatican application for title of minor basilica ( Quaestionarius Notitiae Ad Titulum Basilicae Minoris Obtinendum) for the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels in Olean, New York. Pope Francis granted the title, Minor Basilica, to St. Mary's in 2017. The historical research for the Vatican's application formed the basis of her latest book, A Place Set Apart, the fully-documented history of the basilica from 1850-1956. She previously authored the book, A Worthy and Capable Clergyman, on the life of the basilica's first resident pastor, Rev. John J. Hamel (1850-1912).
Jennifer served as Communications Director for the basilica from 2016-2018 (during the transition to minor basilica status). This service included revamping the basilica's web site and social media outlets as well as traditional print communications. She now devotes her ministry to assisting the basilica's Communications Team along with serving as the basilica's Archivist/Historian. Jennifer co-chaired the parish's annual festival, its #1 fundraiser, for more than 10 years. She also served as the parish Boy Scout troop's counselor for Scouting's Ad Altare Dei Award (for Roman Catholic Scouts). Jennifer has served on a number of governing/advisory boards in the region including St. Bonaventure University's National Alumni Board, the United Way of Cattaraugus County and Southern Tier Catholic School.
She and her husband, Stephen, became foster parents in 1992 through Cattaraugus County Dept. of Social Services and eventually adopted their foster son.
She is founder and editor of the website, CatholicAPPtitude.org, the #1 web site cataloging/reviewing Catholic apps for mobile devices.
Jennifer is a definitively promised member of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites ( Washington Province, USA) and lives in Cuba, New York.
