In response to the call of our Holy Father Francis, in his Apostolic Letter “PATRIS CORDE” on the 150th anniversary of the Proclamation of Saint Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church honored this year, our diocese will be holding a diocesan-wide consecration to St. Joseph.
In a visit to Rome with Pope Piux IX in 1849, it was suggested to Bishop Timon that our Diocese have our patronage to St. Joseph and later the St. Joseph Cathedral which was dedicated on July 1, 1855.
Bishop Mike would like to encourage all of the faithful to join in unity with him in prayer with a consecration to St. Joseph in the Diocese of Buffalo. We will begin on Monday, February 15, and culminate on the Solemnity of St. Joseph, Friday, March 19th at St. Joseph Cathedral, where the bishop will preside at the 12:10 mass.
Bishop Mike stated: "As your new bishop and shepherd, I am encouraging all of the faithful of our diocese to join together with me in prayer during this very special period of consecration to St. Joseph. St. Joseph provides a timeless example of faithfulness and trust in God despite uncertainty and even unreasonable circumstances. We would do well to reflect on how his witness might inspire our own as we seek in our day and time to reveal Christ to our world."
